Choosing the right bed for your dog can vary in a lot of different things. We may consider a bed more of a necessity than a luxury item and the same goes for our dogs. In choosing a bed we look for the best-rated beds with the best quality and we should look for the best quality beds for our dogs as well!

They could sleep on the floor or somewhere outside without any complaints of course, but they would surely appreciate a more comfy and suitable place to lay their heads or just relax. I am going to breakdown in four sections the different determining factors to consider when purchasing a bed for your dog!

The Size of your Dog

The size of your dog plays a major role in the type of bed they would need. A large dog such as a Husky or a Doberman would need a bigger, thicker, and sturdier bed oppose to a smaller dog. The activity level of your dog is also a factor in deciding this as well. If your dog is very active and jumps around a lot, a bigger and substantial bed would be ideal.

You have spent nearly a lifetime with your animals and you know what will last and what won’t. Making sure your larger dogs have an area to support a durable and secure bed is always something to keep in mind. Now, for smaller dogs such as Chihuahuas or Shin Tzus, a smaller less dense bed would work just fine.

Another thing to be mindful of is growth. It will be a smart idea to get a bed that’s bigger to create room for growth and extra movement.

Location of the bed

In addition to considering the size of your dog when searching for a bed, the location where the bed will be kept is also very important. Will, your dog be kept indoors or outdoors? If your dog will be kept outdoors, choosing a best-rated dog bed will be imperative. The durability of the bed is key. Will it withstand your dogs biting and scratching as well as weather conditions outdoors.

You will also want to make sure that the bed you chose will provide a safe and comfortable place for your dog to rest. Some examples are a dog bed that has a roof in the event it rains, or to keep him from getting too hot in the sun during the summer, or to keep him warm during the winter time. These are extremely important factors to consider.

Some other factors to consider would be the style of the bed. Do you want your dog bed to compliment the theme or interior decor in your home? Or will you let your four-legged friend decide! Also, If you’re planning on taking your dog on the go, you will need something that would more compact and is able to fold.

Special needs and Comfort

Your dog is your baby! Whether you’ve had them since birth or you got them at a later age, they will always be your baby no matter what. As the years past making memories and growing old with your dog, their health will start to decline just like us. Although proper diet and exercise will help prolong the process, it’s inevitable. It’s a sad thing to experience but sometimes they will get chronic diseases and the only thing we could do is to make sure their as comfortable as possible!

A dog that requires special needs would require a special bed. They are many options to choose from on the market. Orthopedic foam beds are highly recommended for a dog that has arthritis or thinner dogs with prominent bones. It provides extra cushioning and helps avoid painful pressure points. Heated beds are another good option. It soothes painful joints and reduces muscle soreness.

There is also Memory foam and Bolster beds available. Bolster beds is another good option for older dogs. The comfy memory foam and the lounging curvature makes for a very comfy bed! Our pets get sick just like we do. We need to make sure that we are attentive to our dog’s comfort needs.

Hygiene Solution

The same way we wash and clean our sheets every week, make sure we swap out our pillows and sanitize out mattress toppers every year or so is the same way we should treat our dog beds. Although they love playing outdoors in the grass and the dirt, I’m sure they would appreciate a clean, fresh smelling bed to lay in after a nice bath!

Choosing the best-rated dog beds that has a removable bed liner would be a good idea because you could easily wash the liner to ensure a clean and sanitized surface for your dog to lay on! If your bed does not have a liner you could always purchase one separately. They are some beds that are small enough or the material is soft to where you could put it in the washer and dry it. These type of beds would be ideal to keep your home clean!

Invest in your dog’s comfort

Getting your dog a good bed has its benefits. It provides your dog with a safe place to rest that will give your dog a sense of security. Always try to keep the bed in the same place so he or she knows that’s their special haven. Getting your dog a bed will also protect your home and keep it clean.

Some dogs tend to shed a lot of hair while others don’t. They trail dirt and mud everywhere within your home and maybe even dirty your furniture. If your dog has its own comfy safe place to go, you have a better chance of keeping your house clean and keeping a sound mind. Ha! It will also help if anyone in your home has allergies.

When it comes to buying a bed for your dog, don’t be stingy. Choose the best-rated dog beds for your dog! The four sections listed above is definitely something you should keep in mind.
They all play a major part in choosing the perfect bed for your four-legged friend! You should want the best for your dog. They will love you more for it!best-rated-dog-beds

  1. Great article! I will say I have never bought an upscale bed for my dog. I always went with the cheap ones out of fear that my dog wouldn’t use it. I mean, he doesn’t use the bed we have for him now. He would rather sleep on our bed or under our bed. I’m sure there is a way to train him to use the dog bed, but I love feeling his body next to mine. It makes me so happy.

Also, you said that activity level played a factor in choosing a bed. How exactly does it play a factor? I’m just curious.

Thank you for all the information.

Thanks for reading Colleen! As we know our dogs have different personalities. Some like to lay around and just relax most of the day. While other dogs are very active and move around with tons of energy! A more sturdy bed would typically be for our more active pups. This will ensure a bed that would be long-lasting and won’t damage easily. On the other hand, for our more chill and relaxed babies, we can purchase a bed with a little less stability for them to curl and cuddle up in! My dog is a little older and he’s more of a lounger at this point in his life lol. I hope I was able to answer your question! Once again, thanks for taking the time out of your day to leave this comment!

      Have a wonderful day!
